Boxing/Sports Ministry

In October of 2009 while we were staying in the city of Bacolod for two months, our paths crossed with a young Pastor named Samuel Montejo. He spent a couple of days with us while we were attending a Missions Conference together, little did we know how intertwined our lives would become!

We were very drawn to this young man's heart and his burden to mentor several young boys that he wanted to help spiritually as well as physically. I think what amazed us the most is that Pastor Sam didn't worry about how he would provide for them, he just trusted that God would provide their needs.

Upon returning home, Pastor Sam and his young boys were on our minds a lot. When Richard returned several months later he came with a suitcase full of "things" but realized he could do more. He helped Pastor Sam pick out a piece of land on the Montejo Family farm and before returning home he, Pastor Sam and the boys had started the foundation on a place for them to call "home". Richard made two more trips to continue building the house, but within a year we knew we needed to be there ourselves full time.

Upon arriving to Sipalay in December 2010 we decided to quickly finish the house so we too could have a place to live while developing our mission station down the road. In February 2011 the house was completed enough for us to move into and in March the "Boxing" Boys as we call them, moved in with us and so the Boxing/ Sports Ministry that Pastor Sam had been praying for was officially launched!
